At her former institution (UTK), Dr. Zepernick created a new graduate-level course "MICR 669: Advanced Techniques in Field Microbiology". While these students were out sampling a local quarry in Knoxville, TN - they stumbled upon a toxigenic harmful algal bloom. Their findings landed them in national, university & local news.
